2010 Quatrain 1.5L

2010 Quatrain 1.5L

QUATRAIN is four lines of verse that we interpret as four varietals giving balance and structure to this wine. We painstakingly managed each vine from distinct blocks to ensure perfect ripeness and opulent flavours from our vineyard estates in eastern Osoyoos and the Black Sage Bench in Oliver. This unique cuvée was fermented in small, specially designed French oak fermenters. It was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting Notes
The 2010 Quatrain is an elegant wine, boasting red berry, black cherry, eucalyptus and cedary spice aromas and flavours. Syrah adds a juicy-fleshy texture to this uncommon blend, lending a seamless profile of ripe fruit, dark chocolate and spice to the gutsy structure of the three dominating Bordeaux varietals.

While the 2010 growing season posed some significant challenges, the estate vineyards on the east-side of Osoyoos Lake and Black Sage Bench overcame the late bud break, cool conditions during flowering, and an unusually cool summer, eventually yielding some exceptional fruit, albeit at moderately reduced yields. Tight pruning regimes and careful vine and irrigation management all came to the fore in allowing the relatively low-yielding “Quatrain blocks” to reach desired maturation levels with optimal phenolic ripeness.
